The Arms of John Young Buchanan
The bearer of these arms was the second son of John Buchanan, fourth son of James Buchanan of Dowanhill. The family are cadets of Drummakill via Finnick Drummond, Little Croy, Balfunnyng, and Ballachondachie.
James, who was first of Dowanhill was younger brother to George Buchanan
of Finnick Drummond, the writers grandfather 3 times removed.
John Young Buchanan was scientist aboard the 'Challenger'
expedition which came to New Zealand, and circumnavigated the globe between 1872 and 1874.
He was elder brother to Thomas Ryburn Buchanan who was MP for East Aberdeenshire, and under Secretary for India.
