WALTER BUCHANAN of Shandon
Walter Buchanan of Shandon was M.P. for Glasgow from 1857 to 1865, and was a partner of Buchanan Hamilton and Company, East India merchants. He was born 30 January 1797, and died in 1883. He married twice, (1) Mary Hamilton by whom he had a daughter Ellen, (2) Christina Laura Smith by whom he had a daughter Christina Laura, after her mother.
The arms are recorded in Lyon Register Volume 6, Page 81, 12 October 1863.
THE ARMS: Or, a lion rampant Sable, armed and langued Gules surmounted by a fess of the Third charged with three mullets of the Field, all within a double tressure flory counterflory of the Second.
THE CREST: A hand holding a cap of maintenance within a laurel branch disposed orleways Proper. THE MOTTO: 'Audaces Juvo' ( I assist the bold ) |
